BMW Unveils Green Sports Car

Picture
BMW has just  unveiled it's 2 new concept electric cars. The i8 hybrid and the i3 urban electric car. From the recent news, it already sounds like both models will make it to production.

The hybrid sports car, the i8, is being called the sports car for "a new generation"  goes from 0-60 in under 5 seconds. This is a remarkable achievement considering it only uses gas sparingly from a back up gasoline powered engine. It can travel up to 18 miles on electric before the gas from the 3 cylinder engine kicks in.

The i3, is a green electric vehicle engineered to drive up to 80 miles between charging. The low driving distance makes it ideal for city use.  The folks at BMW made good use of carbon fiber to cut weight by over 5 hundred pounds. Charging only takes 1 hour and zero to 60 is under 8 seconds.

Keep an eye out for both of these vehicles to hit showrooms in 2013.

BMW M3 Review 2011

BMW USA, BMW USA, BMW USA, BMW USA, BMW USA, BMW USA, BMW USA, BMW USA, BMW USA, BMW USA
This model year 2011 M3 celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Now in it's 4th generation. The M3 is reinvented once again still maintaining the authoritative stance it has held on the sports coupe segment.

The most recent generation M3, now 4 years old is available in coupe, convertible and sedan models. Still sporting the naturally aspirated V8. The throaty 4.0 liter engine guarantees BMW level performance.

The  M3 is superbly designed from the moment you open the solid hefty doors to the second you sit in the glove like bucket seats. The ergonomics are superb, for drivers of all sizes.

As you can expect from a 4.0 liter V8 coupe that weighs 1,655kg and has 420hp and 400Nm of torque, it is rather quick, 4.6 seconds to 100km/h quick! The M3 is electronically limited at 250km/h, but with the limiter removed its easily capable of reaching 280km/h. However the top speed is something we haven’t been able to verify within this road test. The German Autobahn was just a bit to far away, so we’ll have to take the auto makers word for it.

The cooler new upgrades on the M3 comes on the competition pack. With this package th driving dynamics and damper setting is enhanced for better cornering, lowering the M3 by a full 10mm. With the push of button you can switch the damper setting back and forth. While this is a fun option, the bottom line is this package is a great addition for sports enthusiasts but not a necessity.

Comparable sports sedans from Mercedes, Porsche and Audi, the  M3 stands in a class on it's own.  Look out for a new twin turbo M3 in 2012!

BMW USA Unveils New Mini!

Newly released photos of the 2012 Mini show many improvements in styling while still holding on to signature Mini image. The 2012 coupe, slated for sale this September, prices of from the low $20's to $30,000 for the premium model.
The new version of the classic Mini has been redesigned with modification body and new low roof line or "helmet roof" to add a slightly enhanced cornering capability.

The new coupe is the latest effort to breathe life in the Mini Brand which often lacks practicality  but remains having a devoted following.

As reported earlier this month, spokes people at BMW USA have said it would build the two-seat mini model in part as a way of catering to a more hardcore crowd of driving enthusiasts than the brand typically attracts.

While it is based on the basic Mini Cooper and has the same 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, the Coupe is faster than other Minis. There are three versions. The base Coupe has 121 horsepower, a zero-to-60 mph time of 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 127 mph. The Coupe S has 181 horsepower, accelerates to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and tops out at 142 mph. The quickest model is the John Cooper Works version with 208 horses, a 6.1-second zero-to-60 time and an impressive top speed of 149 mph.

There has been recent talks by BMW USA to sell the Mini line to Mercedes or Audi. Sources say these rumors do not hold weight considering BMW USA current financial standings. There company line including BMW Financial, BMW Motorcycle and others.
